How to Build a Raised Herb Garden With Pallets

Step 1: Gather Your Materials Begin by collecting the materials needed for your raised herb garden project. You'll require pallets (preferably heat-treated for safety), nails or screws, a saw, landscape fabric, soil, and your choice of herb seeds or seedlings.

Step 2: Choose the Right Location Select a sunny spot in your outdoor area where your herbs will receive ample sunlight. Ensure the ground is level for stability and optimal growth.

Step 3: Disassemble the Pallets Carefully disassemble the pallets using a saw, separating the individual planks. These planks will serve as the building blocks for your raised herb garden.

Step 4: Create the Garden Frame Construct a rectangular frame using the disassembled pallet planks. Secure the corners with nails or screws to ensure stability. The size of the frame will depend on the available space and your gardening preferences.

Step 5: Add Support Legs Attach additional pallet planks vertically to each corner of the frame, creating sturdy support legs. This will elevate your herb garden and allow for proper drainage.

Step 6: Line the Frame with Landscape Fabric Line the interior of the frame with landscape fabric to prevent soil from escaping while still allowing proper drainage. Trim any excess fabric for a neat appearance.

Step 7: Fill with Soil Fill the framed area with high-quality potting soil, leaving about an inch from the top. Ensure the soil is level and ready for planting.

Step 8: Plant Your Herbs Now comes the exciting part – planting your chosen herbs! Arrange the herbs according to their sunlight and water requirements. Consider companion planting for a harmonious and mutually beneficial herb garden.
